Menominee, MI – October 17th – 23rd is National Estate Planning Week. The week is designed to help the public understand the value of estate planning and why it is such a vital part of a community’s financial wellness. The M&M Area Community Foundation (MMACF) believes showing a connection between estate planning, philanthropic giving, and long-term community viability is an important part of their mission and responsibilities to the public.
The MMACF’s Standing Legacy Society was established in 2018 to ensure that end-of-life contributions are recognized, and donors given the distinction they deserve. The Standing Legacy Society is the Foundation’s way of acknowledging commitments to the future in real-time.
“Jan and I got involved with the Foundation because we believe in its commitment to be a vehicle for helping people do good work. We want to be a part of a better future long after we are gone. The Standing Legacy Society provides an opportunity for us to make a lasting impact through support of the Foundation in our estate plan,” stated Dr. North Shetter.
The MMACF encourages charitable givers to work with their financial planner to develop an estate plan and to consider adding the MMACF to those plans. Bequests to the Community Foundation are exempt from estate taxes. Financial or legal advisors can provide professional guidance related to specific estate, beneficiary, and income goals as well as tax and other considerations. People may join the Standing Legacy Society on the Foundation’s website https://www.mmacf.org/standing-legacy-society/ or by calling the Foundation at 906-864-3599.
