YAC

How YAC got started…

The Youth Advisory Committee was brought together in 1996 by the M&M Area Community Foundation as a result of a challenge grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Kellogg wanted to “get young people thinking in terms of practicing charitable giving all through their lives.” It promised to match every dollar the Foundation collected by 50%. The Foundation exceeded their fund raising goal and Kellogg honored their pledge. This collaboration resulted in the Youth Field of Interest Fund.

What YAC does

YAC members give their time, talents and treasure to their community. Send out grant applications; review all requests for grants; make all decisions on awarding grants that benefit area youth and follow up on many grants by completing on-site evaluations. YAC also does community service projects, help out at the M&M Tailgate Party, volunteer at our local “Free Clinic” events, help out at Foundation Fundraisers, participate in an “Angel Tree” Project at Christmas, as well as the “Walk for Warmth”.

Who can join YAC?

Members are students, ages 12-21, who reflect the many forms of diversity found in our youth communities. YAC especially wants to invite high school freshman and sophomores to join in order to maintain continuity in membership. The goal is to have at least two students from each of the school districts in Marinette and Menominee counties. Two YAC representative is elected by the group to sit on the Foundation’s Board of Directors with full voting rights. YAC members meet once every month to work on goals and objectives.

Members may get together at other times on a volunteer basis for special events, fundraising activities, on-site evaluations and/or community service projects.
